Microsoft Word 2007 to offer blogging

Looks like everyone is jumping on the Blog train here. Microsoft is a little bit late; but better late than never. In an effort to make Microsoft shed its image as a company that is turning into a old, slow evolving, behind the time, aging beast; here is a surprise post from the lead program manager of Office 2007.

When I write a blog post using my blog providers web-based editor I miss some of the familiar Word features that I’ve come to rely on, specifically background spelling (those little red squiggles) and autocorrect. These features keep me from making stupid mistakes. Also, I simply want to use the tool that I use for most of my other writing tasks.

I am not sure about his ‘explanation’ behind why they added this to Word 2007; but I am glad that they did. Although all the features he mentioned can be had by Firefox extensions or what not; Its great to see Microsoft trying to appease the bloggers, who are many times the first users/advocates of ‘cutting edge technology’. This way, Microsoft is going to get great publicity!

Watch out Google - Microsoft is coming

I guess Microsoft is getting really tired of getting its butt kicked in the search domain. They lag a distant third behind Google and Yahoo. I would say 90% of my searches are done on Google; and the other 10% on yahoo. Its just become such a habit to go to Google anytime I need something to search. Because I use Firefox; it makes it even easier to search Google because of the way I have it setup. Lets say I would want to search for an ipod; all I would have to do is type in ‘g ipod’ in the address bar and it will take me to the Google search results.

When Microsoft came out with its new LIVE search; I did try it out. It was so slow though; and I promptly gave up after a few minutes of searching. The nice thing about Google is that search just works!. No waiting; instant results. Well, Microsoft is gearing up for battle. They announced that they are going to be spending $1.6billion on their Research and Development. That includes $500 million alone on MSN. Can Google match up? Last I read they are sitting on about $8billion in cash; thanks largely to their outrageous stock price. No matter what Google does; it will be interesting to see what kind of innovation Microsoft comes up with. In the end, it will be good for all web surfers. Competition is good, and Microsoft is slowly finding that out. :)

I have pissed off MSN

As a April Fool’s joke; I made a post titled: Why did MSN label me like this? . It linked to a spoof MSN search page about myself. Looks like I have really angered the MSN folks this time. Read on to find out why.

What are people searching for

I am a fairly new website owner. I have had this site up for just about 2 months now. One of the amusing things I do is to watch the access logs of the site to see how people are finding their way here. Some the queries they are using are pretty funny.

Why did MSN label me like this?

Ok, I know I am a big Google fan and always have been. I have always looked at Microsoft as this big evil company who is only out to make money. I will probably use yahoo search before I even consider using the stupid msn search thingie that they are working on. Having said that; these are just my opinions. I did not mean to hurt MSN’s feelings or anything like that. But it turns out that they are pretty offended with it. Check out the results you get when you search for my name.
I think my friend who works at Microsoft is to blame. I hate that guy! This just goes to show; be careful of what you say to someone. You never know how they are going to react. I guess I found out the hard way. :(

MSN doesn’t like me :(
