A computer question

Usually people come up to me and ask me computer questions; but today I am having to ask one.
Look at this picture below. Its from my computer running Windows Xp.

In the ‘left sidebar’; there should be some options that show up there. I do not know how to describe it; but if you open up a window on your computer running XP; you will most likely see it there. How do I get it back? I do not even remember how I turned it off in the 1st place.
This thing has got me totally perplexed. I might have to turn in my geek license.

Edit Do not take away my geek license just yet. I figured it out. Here is a little step by step guide

• Open a explorer window (such as My Documents)
• Go to “Tools->Folder Options”
• Under the “General” Tab; look for ‘Tasks’.
• Make sure you check ‘Show common tasks in folder’
