Walmart and Circuit City coming to Folsom
I was reading the Sacramento Bee and found some exciting news for us Folsom residents. Both Walmart and Circuit City have huge plans for Folsom. Circuit City is opening a huge store on Iron Point Road right next to the Costco. We already have a Best Buy, and having a new Circuit City so close to it would just be great news for us consumers.
Walmart has even bigger plans for Folsom. First off they are going to expand their existing location on Riley Street by 28,000 square feet. This will double the employee count to 375 from the current 200. If that wasn’t already big news; they are going to open a SuperCenter on Iron Point, close to Costco. The SuperCenter will be about 200,000 square feet. Thats about half the size of Arco Arena (where the Sacramento Kings play). This facility will employ about 400 people. The SuperCenter can be thought of as a bigger Walmart, with expanded grocery store. This can’t be good news for the Sam’s Club we already have.
Folsom is really expanding in the last couple of years. I wonder how these new stores are going to impact the housing situation we have. The apartment complexes in Folsom have about a 1% vacancy rate. It is so tough to find an apartment, especially since so many complexes are being converted into Condos. The apartment complex where I live in, Sherwood Apartments, has also been approved by the Folsom city council for Condo Conversion. Don’t they realize that not everyone can afford $400,000 homes. I guess all those new employees will just have to commute. Folsom sure is changing!
