Kulwinder Dhillon dead at age 32

March 21st, 2006

Update: Check out Kulwinder Dhillon’s Music Video
I had to take a break from my daily postings about geeky/techie stuff to post this piece of news. I heard it on DesiRadio (broadcasting from UK) yesterday; and verified it with family in India. Kulwinder dhillon, a great punjabi singer, died in a car accident in Punjab, India. Some of his best known albums were ‘College’ and ‘Velli’. This is very sad news :(

Update He was traveling in a Honda city that was being driven by his friend, Baljinder Billa. The driver lost control of the car; perhaps alcohol played a role. I was in Punjab in January 2005 (for my wedding); and the driving there is definetely not safe. The roads are so narrow and people typically do not follow rules, and there is no one around to enforce these rules.
It seems like his new album “Akhada”, was just released a few days before his tragic death. I have not heard it yet; but definetely plan on doing so.
As someone mentioned in the comments, this is a big blow to the punjabi music scene especially after Bindrakhia’s death. In fact, many people confused his voice with Bindrakhia’s since they both sounded very similar.

Kulwinder became a good friend of ours when he was in london last- he was a real cool guy, someone who was so down to earth, and very very helpful.
We all cannot come to terms with whats happened, whats really sad is that he was the only child of his parents, He has one son in his tender years. I hope his memory lives on and I hope his next release will acheive outstanding success.

I had only listed to his mainstream songs before; but since his death I have listened to 3 of his albums. I listened to each and every song carefull and realized what a great singer he was and what a big loss it is to the punjabi community.

Kulwinder Dillon was da SH*T. This guy was crazy and both times that i recently went to India, his popular albums like Velli were pounding everywhere.

This guy was nuts man, when my cousin brought the CD, i looked at it and imlike return it. he did. The next day, i heard his song somewhere in the pind and went bak to the shopkeeper to rebuy the cd.lol it was 2 good and still is
